Spring Wines: Light, Fresh and Floral for Longer Days

Spring has arrived. The ipê trees are in bloom, the days are getting longer, and in Curitiba we get those sunny afternoons that are perfect for a balcony, an unhurried lunch or a picnic. Even if the weather still changes three times in a single day, your palate is already asking for something different: less weight, more freshness.

It's the ideal season to take a break from the full-bodied reds of winter and explore rosés, aromatic whites, sparkling wines and light reds served a little cooler.

What makes a "spring" wine?

  • Lively acidity, which refreshes and makes you want another sip.
  • Aromas of fresh fruit and flowers: lemon, passion fruit, peach, strawberry, orange blossom.
  • Light to medium body, which pairs well with light dishes and mild days.
  • Little or no oak: the focus is on the fruit.
  • A lower serving temperature, which brings out all of this.

1. Rosés: the face of the season

If spring had a color, it would be rosé. Fresh, fruity and beautiful in the glass, it goes with almost everything you eat in the middle of the afternoon.

Pairs well with: fruit salads, salmon, sushi, quiches, charcuterie boards, pizza margherita.

2. Sauvignon Blanc: the white that smells like spring

Herbaceous, citrusy and with a hint of passion fruit, Sauvignon Blanc is perhaps the most "springlike" white of all.

Pairs well with: goat cheese (the classic combination!), green salads, grilled asparagus, ceviche, fish with herbs.

3. Sparkling wines: bubbles to celebrate the season

Sparkling wine doesn't need a special occasion, and spring is the perfect excuse. Italian Prosecco, made from the Glera grape, is light, fruity (green apple, pear, white flowers) and easy to love.

Pairs well with: appetizers, seafood, light fried foods (tempura, shrimp pastel), Sunday brunch.

4. Different whites for those who want something out of the ordinary

5. Light reds, served nice and cool

If you can't give up red, spring has a place for you too. The secret is to choose light reds with low tannins and serve them at around 14 °C (15 minutes in the refrigerator).

Pairs well with: pasta with fresh tomato sauce, white meats, burgers, pizza, mushrooms.

How to serve in spring

Wine Temperature Tip
Sparkling wine 6 to 8 °C Bucket with ice and water, 20 minutes
Rosé and light white 8 to 10 °C Three hours in the refrigerator
Fuller-bodied white 10 to 12 °C Take it out of the refrigerator 10 minutes beforehand
Light red 13 to 15 °C 15 minutes in the refrigerator

Picnic tip: bring your wines already chilled in a cooler bag, with acrylic glasses and a corkscrew, and opt for bottles with screw caps or half bottles.
